What is more wasteful?
1. A blatant display of consumerism;
2. Criminal activity resulting from said consumerism;
3. Being part of the purchasing herd, then destroying the item for 15 seconds of infamy...
While I believe that people have the right to spend their money in any way they want, surely even hardcore gamers can wait a few months before buying a PS3:
a. The price will have to gradually drop;
b. A later version will have sorted out the initial kinks and defects;
c. More titles would become available and you'll be in a better position to know whether the games are worth it;
d. It's more fulfilling knowing you've made a calculated choice than to just follow the hype.

From an email I've received today:
"In South Africa you are allowed to do competitive advertising, so here are some adverts that have been made in the newspapers...look in sequence."
